I do not know why anyone gave eggs a bad name saying that eating eggs increases cholesterol and eggs make you put on weight etc. My family has been eating eggs for the longest time and we have had no reason to complain. (Many people eats eggs that come from different birds and animals, But I specifically talk of eggs that come from hens.)

I really do not know what I would do if I banned eggs in my kitchen. Eggs are so handy to have in the house. An egg omelette with a couple of slices of bread, or wrapped up in a chapatti to make a roll, makes a delicious and nutritious breakfast. It keeps you feeling happy and full for a long time. At times one can have an omelette for lunch or dinner instead of breakfast. If you have unexpected guests for dinner, you can easily just make egg curry.  Caramel custard, an all time favourite with my kids, is an easy to make dessert.

Eggs are not a seasonal food but they available year round. Eggs  provide not only delicious meals on their own they are also an essential ingredient for many baked dishes such as cakes, cookies, curries and desserts that would never be the same without them, cakes are so yummy, but an egg-less cake just does not taste the same.  Eggs are a common ingredient in a variety of dishes sweet and savoury, ranging from omelettes, cakes, soufflés, egg curry, biryani, cutlets and many others.

Nutritional information about eggs:

 

Eggs are an excellent source of complete protein, vitamin A, natural vitamin D among other nutrients. In fact one can call it a complete food. Eggs are a source of high-quality protein and they have all 9 essential amino acids. In fact egg-nog a drink that is made up of milk and raw eggs beaten together is a drink that is a choice of many body builders and wrestlers, in India.

They are also are a good source of choline. Choline is present in the egg yolk. One medium sized egg has about 300 micrograms of choline which is an important nutrient for the body that helps to regulate the brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.

Many vegetarian people do not eat eggs because they feel that eggs are not vegetarian food, but eggs that are sold in the market are un-fertilised eggs, that means the egg has not been fertilised and so no chicken in going to hatch out of it. That would make it vegetarian. Like milk comes from the cow, and is not considered non-vegetarian food, unfertilised eggs that come from the hen, can be considered vegetarian.

When shopping for eggs, make sure that the eggs are not broken or cracked. Also check for the packaging date, eggs more than a month old will start to go stale. When putting them in your shopping bag, ensure you place them on top of the rest of the groceries and stuff you buy as they are very fragile and piling things on top of the eggs will most certainly break them.

Do not wash eggs as this can remove their protective coating. Though it is not necessary to refrigerate eggs, you can store them in the refrigerator as it helps them remain fresh for a longer time, maybe about one month.

If you want to test the freshness of eggs, put them in a container of water. The good eggs sink to the bottom and the rotten eggs float on top.

Other uses of eggs:

Eggs are no doubt good for the body when eaten, but they also make good shampoos and conditioners. Many egg shampoos and conditioners are available in the market.

Egg white also makes a good face-pack.

Thus I could say that eggs are good for you, they nourish you inside out!

I couldn't agree more with you Vibhavari. We have been eating eggs ever since I can remember. Even today, at the ripe young age of 60, I put away 2 eggs for breakfast. And if that isn't enough, two parathas to go with them. Happy laying, hens.
